AKRONRobbery victim shotAKRON: A 30-year-old woman was shot during a robbery at her home late Friday, Akron police reported Monday.Shortly before midnight, three males approached the woman, forced her back inside her Madison Avenue house and demanded money at gunpoint.When the woman said she didn’t have any money, one of the robbers fired a shot, striking her in the pelvis. She was taken to Akron General Medical Center, where her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.One of the robbers might have been shot in the leg during the incident, police said.Nothing was taken and the robbers fled.Suspect arrestedAKRON: Akron police said Monday they have made an arrest in the August robbery of a 90-year-old Akron man.Ben Baldridge, 34, of Indianola Avenue in Akron, is charged with robbery. Steve Rubin, chief operating officer of Stark Enterprises, said he expects to have announcements shortly of the retail businesses going into the new development. The names of the stores will be posted on the large sign at the corner of State Road and Portage Trail.The city bought the nearly dilapidated plaza for $10 million and razed it in 2008. There were no reports of injuries.This is the second fire to strike the square this year. A fire in April destroyed the Medina Sports Cards & Collectibles shop.NORTHEAST OHIOChase arrestNORTHEAST OHIO: Two men in a stolen pickup truck were arrested Sunday night after leading police on an hourlong chase across three counties.State Highway Patrol troopers spotted a 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck pulling a cargo trailer about 10:30 p.m. on Everhard Road in Belden Village. The truck had been reported stolen from an Arlington Road business in Springfield Township. When troopers tried to stop the truck, the driver fled north on Interstate 77, sideswiping an SUV driven by an 18-year-old Lakewood woman.The truck continued onto Interstate 271 and Interstate 480 into Cuyahoga County. The pursuit ended about 11:30 p.m. when the driver exited on Lee Road and stopped. The driver and passenger ran away but were apprehended a short time later.Charles A. E. Austin, 25, and Brian A. Collins, 22, both of Highland Hills, were charged with five counts each of receiving stolen property and one count each of obstructing official business. They were booked into the Stark County Jail.Police agencies in Stark, Summit and Cuyahoga counties helped with the pursuit. No one was injured in the chase, according to the Stark and Summit post of the State Highway Patrol.PORTAGE COUNTYLibrary levy talkRANDOLPH TWP.: The Portage County District Library will host a levy campaign meeting at 6:30 tonight at the Randolph Community Center, 1639 State Route 44.Residents interested in learning about the levy or helping with the campaign are encouraged to attend.The library is seeking a 1-mill, five-year operating levy on the Nov. 8 ballot.REVERE SCHOOLSLawsuit withdrawnBATH TWP.: The Revere teachers union has withdrawn its lawsuit against the district after failing to persuade a judge to temporarily halt the imposition of a new contract the board approved last summer over the union’s objections.The Revere Education Association had filed suit in Summit County Common Pleas Court on Aug. 30.Judge Paul Gallagher ruled against the union’s request for a preliminary injunction, arguing that the union couldn’t prove it would be harmed if its members had to wait for raises, which probably would have been retroactive if the union had prevailed at trial, according to the ruling.The union argues that the board approved a three-year agreement without raises that was taken off the table last spring, when the district was unable to certify it because of financial uncertainty.The union instead wanted the district to honor the terms of an agreement reached in 2010 that did include raises for this school year.SUMMIT COUNTYVeterans eventAKRON: The Summit County Stand Down for Veterans will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at VFW Post 3383, 690 W.
